My name is Mubarak Alhajri. I was born in Ohio , United States.
But, I am originally from Alkhobar, Saudi Arabia. Seven years ago I graduated
from high school, at first I wasn't planning to study abroad, I spent four
years working in Saudi post office. For me It was a great opportunity and I was
planning to keep working in it forever, I t’s hard to find a job these days
specially after the finances crisis which affected Saudi Arabia as well as
United States and most the world countries. Four years after working in the
post office my father’s company transferred him to Netherlands, he had to move
there for three years with my whole family. My father asked me to quit my job
and move with them their but I decided not to quit and stay in my job. Two
months later I missed my family I felt homesick although I was in my country
but my family was my country. I took vacation form my job and I went to Netherlands to see my family. After returning from my vacation my manager at
work asked me to meet with him he said that he got good news for me, the news
was that I got a scholarship from the post office to study English in the U.S
for one year and six months. I was very happy to hear that news and I accepted
it right away. Five weeks later I was in Saint Paul to start studying at ESL
center, I've meet a lot of Saudi students some of them were at ELS and the
others were at UST. I didn't want to get back after one and a half year with
only a ELS certificate, I preferred to get my bachelor degree so I would get
better position when I got back home. I talked with my manger about getting my
bachelor degree, he was so excited and he encouraged me. Finally I hope to
graduate soon from SCSU and go back home to get the better position that I was
looking for.
